CareerSeekers
CareerSeekers are a non-profit social enterprise that works with leading Australian organisations to create employment opportunities for asylum seekers and refugees who aspire to obtain professional employment. We were honoured to work with this amazing organisation in forming and framing their annual participant and partner get-together event.
Asked to create an event around home, we conceived and named the event Home Truths.
The idea of home is often understood as a safe and stable environment. Yet this ideal may not be shared by those who cross foreign borders in search of a new home. For many individuals, their varied life experiences may reveal differing realities.
Home Truths asks both employees and refugees and asylum seekers to look beyond the surface to empathise, challenge and redefine our understanding of Australia as home. Bold and yes, slightly provocative (we threw reference to our national anthem for good measure), the name and event identity was met with a great and stirring response.
One of our most favourite bits of the identity was realising the event artefact — a little something for both participants and partners of the program to commemorate their unique contributions.
The brick, inspired by Australian suburban vernacular is a strong and long-lasting symbol of the foundations of a new home in Australia, and reminder of our contributions to a more inclusive Australia.
